“At the end of the street was a large glass box with a female mannequin inside it, dressed as a gypsy fortune teller. “Now,” said Wednesday, “at the start of any quest or enterprise it behooves us to consult the Norns.” He dropped a coin into the slot. With jagged, mechanical motions, the gypsy lifted her arm and lowered it once more. A slip of paper chunked out of the slot. Wednesday took it, read it, grunted, folded it up and put it in his pocket. “Aren’t you going to show it to me? I’ll show you mine,” said Shadow. “A man’s fortune is his own affair,” said Wednesday, stiffly. “I would not ask to see yours.” Shadow put his own coin into the slot. He took his slip of paper. He read it. EVERY ENDING IS A NEW BEGINNING. YOUR LUCKY NUMBER IS NONE. YOUR LUCKY COLOUR IS DEAD. Motto: LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON. Shadow made a face. He folded the fortune up and put it inside his pocket.”
''... The fact was that despite himself, without knowing why or how it had happened and very much against his better judgement, he had fallen hopelessly in love. He had fallen as if into some deep and muddy hole. By nature he was a delicate and sensitive soul. He had had ideals and dreamed of an exquisite and passionate affair... He had fallen under the omnipotent and mysterious spell of the female... There was no way he could explain its fatal and total power...''

(…) My enemies are the source of half my income. They hate me so much that it becomes a subliminal love affair.
“The human race is but a monotonous affair. Most of them labour the greater part of their time for mere subsistence; and the scanty portion of freedom which remains to them so troubles them that they use every exertion to get rid of it. Oh, the destiny of man!”
There is a time in a love affair when you run - everything still lies ahead, full of hope - and another time when everything tumbles into the past and what lies ahead will never be anything but repetition and decline.
"Take your glasses off. This is a formal affair. Make sure your makeup is bold. It'll help you blend in with the wives of the ambassadors and government officials who will be there." Right! I forgot he comes from a noble family.

"We are no longer dealing (only) with a wild and threatening nature, nor with a fragile nature to be protected, nor a nature to be mercilessly exploited. The case is new. Gaia, she who intrudes, asks nothing of us, not even a response to the question she imposes. Offended,2 Gaia is indifferent to the question “who is responsible?” and doesn’t act as a righter of wrongs – it seems clear that the regions of the earth that will be affected first will be the poorest on the planet, to say nothing of all those living beings that have nothing to do with the affair."

I'll never know the exact moment she took her last breath. I'll never know why she chose to kill herself rather than running away with me. Or why death was more appealing than a life with me. But what hurt most is knowing that I spent the entire night staring at my mother's dead body and never even realized it.
Mommy smelled like black roses. Daddy tainted her, and her petals started to wilt and decay. I lost her when I didn't have to. If she would've removed us from that evil Church with an even worse dictator, we could've had a happy life. I suppose her death wasn't all in vain- it gave me my purpose in life. If I can just extinguish all the evil, then I can finally live in a pure world with my flower garden of people.
You can't hide from fate. That's the funny thing about destiny, even if you try to escape it, it will always find you.

The evil is seeping out of each hole I've made in his body. I can feel it, curling from the openings like smoke from the machines in nearly every corner of this house. I breathe in deep, smelling the evil coming out of him. It smells like rotten egg and brimstone. It's how I know that I made the right judgement.
