Böyle saçma bir kitabı sırf “klasik” diye okumak da ayrı bir sorun. Karakterler berbat, anlatım zayıf. Hizmetçi Nelly’nin işi gücü yokmuş gibi ömrü boyunca iyi görünerek çalıştığı insanların hayatıyla oynaması ayrı bir absürtlük. Aşk hikâyesi desen yarı kardeşler arasında geçiyor. Millet saçma sapan buhranlara girip ölüyor. Üstelik ondan fazla kez filme uyarlanmış bir eser. Beğenmedim ve önermiyorum.
Reading such a book simply because it is labeled a “classic” is a problem in itself. The characters are unbearable and the narration feels weak. Nelly, the servant, seems to spend her entire life manipulating the very people she works for while pretending to be virtuous. The so-called love story unfolds between quasi-siblings. Characters spiral into irrational breakdowns and die dramatically. Despite being adapted into films more than ten times, I did not enjoy it and would not recommend it.

İki yüz yıl öncesinden bir seyahatname okuyup adeta zamanda yolculuk yapmak gibi. O dönemin bakış açısı ve zihniyetiyle kendi kültürümüze dışarıdan bakabilmek oldukça ilginç bir deneyim. Yüz sayfayı bile bulmayan bu kısa eser, beklenmedik derecede güçlü bir etki bırakıyor.
Reading this travel narrative feels like traveling back in time two centuries. Observing one’s own culture through the perspective and mindset of that era is a fascinating experience. Despite being fewer than a hundred pages, the work leaves a surprisingly strong impression.

İlk defa bir kitabın adeta örgü örer gibi, nakış nakış işlendiğini görüp hayran kaldım. Her bir detay o kadar ince düşünülmüş ki, metnin bütününe hayran olmamak imkânsız. Büyük bir heyecan ve hazla okuduğum, etkileyici bir eserdi.
For the first time, I felt like a book was crafted like intricate embroidery—stitched together with remarkable precision. Every detail is so thoughtfully designed that it’s impossible not to admire the whole. I read it with great excitement and deep enjoyment—truly an impressive work.

Bu kitapla ilk defa bir insanın mentalitesi ve bakış açısının ne kadar belirleyici ve sarsıcı olabileceğini fark ettim. Bizim için bariz görünen şeylerin, başkaları tarafından tamamen farklı algılanabileceğini güçlü bir şekilde gösteriyor. Kitaptaki bir tartışma, şimdiye kadar okuduğum en etkileyici diyaloglardan biriydi. Hayatın ne kadar bireysel yaşandığını ve bakış açımızın kaçınılmaz şekilde dünyamızı şekillendirdiğini çok derin bir biçimde hissettiriyor.
This book made me realize for the first time how profound and decisive one’s mindset and perspective can be. Things that seem obvious to us can be perceived entirely differently by others. One particular discussion in the book is among the most impactful dialogues I’ve ever read. It powerfully conveys how individual life truly is and how inevitably our perspective shapes our reality.

A short, concise, and exciting detective story. At times, it reminded me of the anime Detective Conan. For fans of crime fiction, this work by one of the masters of the genre, Edgar Allan Poe, is definitely worth reading. Centered around two murders, the story unfolds through careful reasoning and step-by-step deduction. The culprit of the first murder is something you would never guess, even if you thought about it for forty years.
