The publication of materials on new and already well-known pictorial monuments – mainly petroglyphs of the steppes and foothills of Eurasia – from the Karatau ridge to Mongolia reflect the ideas of ancient populations regarding the diverse flora and fauna of that region, and their aesthetic and mythological points about world order, cosmogony, customs and traditions. The book is well illustrated, including numerous photographs, drawings, and maps of the locations of the pictorial monuments. The publication details significant issues of cultural and chronological attribution, ancient artistic traditions, problems of style and mythological content. This volume also considers problems of the preservation of rock art monuments, its wide use for cultural and educational purposes, and the impacts of the development of regional and international tourism. The book is addressed to a wide range of readers: specialists in the field of ancient history, archaeology, rock art, organizers of tourist activities, guides, university students, as well as everyone interested in the ancient history of Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
