Kitaplar, sanki asla geri dönemeyeceğimiz bir anın tanıkları gibi, bir ihtiyaç ve unutkanlık anlaşmasıyla tutunurlar insana. Books, like witnesses of a moment we can never return to, cling to us with a pact of necessity and forgetfulness.
I think of our last moments together, Jacks covered in Tank’s blood. Is he still the Jacks I knew? He defeated Tank and then had to turn around and kill his own father. I hope he knows it was a necessity. I hope he’s safe. I collapse onto the bed. I want to fight, but all I can do is wait.

But the most notoriously devastating review came from William Buckley’s National Review. Echoing the views of many religious conservatives, another kind of ex-Communist slammed Rand for her atheism and lack of charity and compassion. In “Big Sister Is Watching You,” Whittaker Chambers wrote that Atlas Shrugged substitutes “the Sign of the Dollar, in lieu of the Sign of the Cross,” presenting the “Randian Man” who, like “Marxian Man,” is at “the center of a godless world.” Chambers continues: “Out of a lifetime of reading, I can recall no other book in which a tone of overriding arrogance was so implacably sustained. Its shrillness is without reprieve. Its dogmatism is without appeal... From almost any page of Atlas Shrugged, a voice can be heard from painful necessity, commanding: ‘To a gas chamber—go!’ ”

Free will is consistent with absolute necessity; for it was necessary we should be free…
“She taught me all about real sacrifice. That it should be done from love... That it should be done from necessity, not without exhausting all other options. That it should be done for people who need your strength because they don't have enough of their own.”
“I'm not going to pretend to know what's going on with you," he says. "But if you senselessly risk your life again -- " "I am not senselessly risking my life. I am trying to make sacrifices, like my parents would have, like -- " "You are not your parents You are a sixteen-year-old girl --" I grit my teeth. "How dare you -- " "-- who doesn't understand that the value of a sacrifice lies in its necessity, not in throwing your life away! And if you do that again, you and I are done.”

I am not afraid of repeating myself because what I am writing, what I am saying, does not answer to the standards of literature, but to those of necessity and desperation, to standards of fire.
"Hard work was a necessity of life." "Çok çalışmak yaşamın bir gereğidir."

No religion comes out unscathed from Dick’s satire of spiritual belief. Judaism, Catholicism, various Protestant sects, Pentecostalism, Islam, Mormonism, Scientology, all share his ire and his pointed wit. He has created a fundamentalist’s dream come true - a society united by faith in its rigid beliefs, in which science and religion are merged

"Talking may be a necessity, but silence is an art." - Goethe
I’m afraid of men not because of any singular encounter with a man. I’m afraid of men because of the cumulative damage caused by the everyday experiences I’ve recounted here, and by those untold, and by those I continue to face. None of these stories are exceptional. I’m afraid of how common, if not mild, my experiences are. Many people have endured more savage forms of violence inflicted by men. I’m also afraid that the most prevalent response these stories will elicit is pity. Even worse, I’m afraid of the necessity of eliciting in order to generate concern or to galvanize change.
I have learned to act prudently. Life, and hard, bitter necessity have taught me that.
+"I should whap your backside for such carelessness," +"This in the hand of an enemy can let out your life's blood! You're an apt pupil, none better, but I've warned you that not even in play do you let a man inside your guard with death in his hand." -"I guess I'm not in the mood for it today," Paul said. +"Mood?" Halleck's voice betrayed his outrage even through the shield's filtering. +"What has mood to do with it? You fight when the necessity arises -no matter the mood! Mood's a thing for cattle or making love or playing the baliset. It's not for fighting." "I'm sorry, Gurney." "You're not sorry enough!"
