The Museum of Innocence After finishing "The Museum of Innocence," I found myself in need to talk about it. I wanted my friends to know about this, but I wanted them to know about it slowly, in small drips, and tiny pieces. Orhan Pamuk is such a master story-teller. He didn't just give you a relief from this journey. He took you to

One of the most interesting, eye-opening books I've read. I’m familiar with Russian literature, I know Russian, but the more I read, the more I'm falling in love with them. It's one of those Russian classics that's always on those lists. A Hero of Our Time has an interesting format. It's split into sections but these sections are all very

3/5 Stars (%63/100) Toni Morrison is one of few African-American writers I truly enjoy. It may sound cliche but I especially enjoyed Beloved. However, it is very obvious that she is difficult to read. The characters are very complex and the plot is often not linear. There are many elements in the book to consider so it makes it very difficult to comprehend. I liked the fact that the characters were unique and represented unique jazz pieces. Jazz music appears as some kind of a character in the book. Though it seems like it deals with a basic murder, there are so many things going on. It was good overall.

John Barth is the most important postmodernist novelist and his works of art fiction and reality somehow is complicated. It becomes difficult to decide which one is real and which one is fiction. Blurring and uncertainty is so immense that sometimes it is problematic to understand what is happening and what is going on this story. In the story we

1/5 Star (%10/100) DNF at %30 (around 80 pages). If I had only one word to describe the book, it would be disappointing. I heard nothing but good comments about the book and the short synopsis was also interesting but it just does not work. I really tried my best but I cannot read even one more page. I've read quite a bit but nothing really happened yet. All I've read so far is the long description of statues, fish, birds, rooms, and so forth. There is also plenty of numbers like one hundred sixteenth room, seventy-eighth month in the thirty-second year, etc. This becomes complicated because the book is split into many smaller chapters given to us as diary entries. The only I've learned (before I dnfd it, so around page 80) is that the labyrinth causes memory loss. I know my mind is pretty busy lately so it is hard for me to focus but jesus christ this is boring. I don't know about you but I'm not gonna spend almost 200 pages just to learn 2 or 3 more pieces of information. There is a simple premise which is good enough but the execution is horrible is all I can say. Try it but I have to say I will never come back to this book and possibly the writer because I really wanted to read Jonathan Strange.

I don't remember crying this much while reading a book. Tillie Cole ripped my heart; threw it on the floor, jumped on it several times and shattered it in pieces, and I'm not complaining, I desperately needed a good cry. "It sounds good, don't you think? 'Poppy and Rune, best friends for infinity!' " *The

A poem about legacies and death
In the poem, the statue of Ozymandias, the king of kings, lies decaying in a distant desert. Only the pedestal, two upright legs and a face, remains of his statue; the rest is shattered and buried under lone and level sands. Netiher his mighty power as a king nor his statue, his legacy, could withstand the passage of merciless time. This poem reminds me of the 76-77th stanzas of Hávámál, a collection of Old Norse poems about philosophy of life. However, these stanzas and Ozymandias are more like two sides of the same coin, they complete each other. They both give the message of "memento mori" (remember you are a mortal), and speak about leaving a legacy. Ozymandias does this by the statue of Ozymandias, the king of kings while 76-77th stanzas of Hávámál give this message through the experiences of common man; however, this time the speaker is Odin - the king of gods. The message, along with memento mori, is that immortality is only achieved through a legacy: through the tales of the one who lived and died; through the reputation they leave behind. Man is the legacy he leaves behind. Nothing more, nothing less. Although Hávámál presents legacies as more heroic, personally, I always thought about legacies similar to that of Ozymandias. Even the legacy, the statue, of King Ozymandias lies broken into pieces in a distant desert; forgotten and covered with sand. No matter how mighty and powerful you are, no matter what your title is, no matter how powerful your legacy is, time and death will erase everything. In the end, good or bad, nothing matters. Everything is doomed to be swallowed by the sands of time.

Importance of Self-awareness
Crusoe’s arrival on the island does not make him revert to a brute existence controlled by animal instincts, and, unlike animals, he remains conscious of himself at all times. Indeed, his island existence actually deepens his self-awareness as he withdraws from the external social world and turns inward. The idea that the individual must keep a careful reckoning of the state of his own soul is a key point in the Presbyterian doctrine that Defoe took seriously all his life. We see that in his normal day-to-day activities, Crusoe keeps accounts of himself enthusiastically and in various ways. For example, it is significant that Crusoe’s makeshift calendar does not simply mark the passing of days, but instead more egocentrically marks the days he has spent on the island: it is about him, a sort of self-conscious or autobiographical calendar with him at its center. Similarly, Crusoe obsessively keeps a journal to record his daily activities, even when they amount to nothing more than finding a few pieces of wood on the beach or waiting inside while it rains. Crusoe feels the importance of staying aware of his situation at all times. We can also sense Crusoe’s impulse toward self-awareness in the fact that he teaches his parrot to say the words, “Poor Robin Crusoe. . . . Where have you been?” This sort of self-examining thought is natural for anyone alone on a desert island, but it is given a strange intensity when we recall that Crusoe has spent months teaching the bird to say it back to him. Crusoe teaches nature itself to voice his own self-awareness.

One of the best-written books, that I have read so far. The storytelling is heard breaking, and breath catching at one's. While reading the story of the girl Charlie, you can feel her struggling, and hopelessness through her life. Definitely recommend for people who are interested to read dark human psychology, and drama books.
