“Tonight. Give them hell.” She smiled. He stared at her smile for a long, long minute, his magnificent eyes glued to her mouth. And the most beautiful, precious thing happened. His cold, aloof eyes warmed.
"It was this doctrine in its magnificent consistency which, in the fateful epoch of the seventeenth century, upheld the belief of the militant defenders of the holy life that they were weapons in the hand of God, and executors of His providential will"

What's look like A healthy relationship?
A healthy relationship is like two towering mountains with a magnificent valley between them through which the river of life flows strong and fast and free. Neither mountain needs the other and yet their connection to one another gives rise to a lush valley teeming with the wonder of nature.

A tormented scream pierced the night like a blade. The sky bled, and darkness fell instead of stars, erasing lights across the Magnificent North.

"Sometimes," said the horse. "Sometimes what?" asked the boy. "Sometimes just getting up and carrying on is brave and magnificent.

It is truly marvelous—when I came here first and looked down into the valley from this hilltop—how the entire region attracted me. There…a little forest land…oh, to lose oneself in its shade…. There, a mountaintop…oh, to see the panorama from it! The rolling hills and enchanting valleys…I yearned to lose myself in them. I would hurry down, but return home without having found what I had hoped to find. Distance is like the future. A vast twilit entity lies before us, our perception is lost in it and becomes as blurred as our eyesight, and we yearn, ah, we yearn to surrender all of our Self and let ourselves be filled to the brim with a single, tremendous, magnificent emotion, but alas…when we hurry to the spot, when There becomes Here, everything is as it was before and we are left standing in our poverty and constraint, our souls longing for the balm that has eluded us. Thus the most restless vagabond yearns in the end to return to his native land and find in his cottage, in the arms of his wife, with his children around him, and in the occupations that provide for them, the joys he sought vainly elsewhere.

4/5 Stars (%79/100) This is a simple short story about Marquis de Carabas' search for his magnificent coat. Marquis is a mysterious character from Neverwhere, Gaiman's brilliant novel about London Below. Therefore, it is highly recommended (not obligatory) that you read the novel first. As with many other works of Gaiman, this one was also pretty humorous. Though the premise itself is quite simple, Gaiman makes the story interesting and fun enough to make you read it. De Carabas also reminds me a lot of Anansi and other trickster characters of Gaiman. And I love these kinds of silver-tongued characters. Short but fun book, definitely recommended.

In 2019 I was able to wander around Florence. Florence's undeniable Medici influence is on display everywhere. From the architecture of the prominent buildings, to the art that adorns their interiors and exteriors, it even includes their influence on government. Christopher Hibbert's superb history of the Medici family is one that I

I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But as much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking. ... The world is so exquisite, with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there is little good evidence. Far better, it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look Death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides.
Self-Portrait in a Cap, c. 1630
Rembrandt van Rijn, one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art, was born 416 years ago in Leiden, Netherlands. Today, people take selfies. Back then, Rembrandt painted them. He created nearly 100 self-portraits during his lifetime, including approximately 50 paintings, 32 etchings, and 7 drawings. These self-portraits create an astonishingly accurate visual diary of the artist over a span of 40 years. Here we present 6 magnificent examples of Rembrandt’s self-portraits that show all the good and bad things that happened to him in his life.
